Latest EV Delivery Data Adds Another Budget Check for Buyers

Strong Tesla and Polestar numbers point to continuing demand, while broader loan costs still need careful testing

Australia’s electric vehicle market has entered the final stretch of 2026 with another sign of sustained buyer interest, after the Electric Vehicle Council’s October vehicle sales report showed combined Tesla and Polestar battery electric deliveries of 4,168 vehicles for the month.
The figure does not cover the whole EV market, but it is still useful for finance-minded buyers because it shows that demand for popular electric models remains active even as household budgets stay under pressure.

The October report said Tesla accounted for 4,050 of those deliveries, a large increase on its October 2025 result, while the Tesla Model Y series recorded 3,105 deliveries for the month and moved beyond 39,000 sales for the year to date. The Model 3 also remained a meaningful contributor, with 945 October deliveries. Importantly, the EVC notes that its monthly report records vehicles at delivery, not at order, so these numbers reflect cars reaching customers rather than every purchase decision being made in October.

For buyers considering an EV loan, the practical point is that strong delivery numbers can influence the buying environment in several ways. Popular models may have firmer pricing or shorter-lived discounts, while increased competition from other brands can put pressure on pricing, specifications and finance offers. Neither trend automatically makes a loan good value. A sharper vehicle price can still be outweighed by a longer term, higher comparison rate, large fees or a balloon payment that leaves a substantial amount owing at the end.

The broader market context also matters. Recent industry reporting for September showed battery electric vehicles continuing to claim a much larger share of new vehicle sales than in previous years, with BEVs accounting for 19 per cent of year-to-date sales in AADA’s summary. That shift means EVs are no longer a niche finance category. Lenders, insurers, dealers and buyers are all dealing with more real-world data on demand, resale expectations, battery warranties and running costs.

For households comparing models, a sensible starting point is to separate the vehicle decision from the finance structure. The car’s range, charging fit and warranty are one set of considerations; the loan amount, interest rate, fees, repayment frequency and residual risk are another. Running an indicative scenario through an EV Loan Calculator can help illustrate how changes in deposit, term or balloon assumptions may affect repayments, without treating the result as a quote or approval.

The key limitation is that current sales momentum does not remove the need for caution. EV prices, incentives, charging costs and lender criteria can all change. Buyers may wish to review general information on EV loan rates, fees and repayments, compare written loan disclosures carefully and leave room in the budget for insurance, registration, charging setup and maintenance. Strong EV demand is encouraging, but affordability still comes down to the full cost over the life of the vehicle and the finance contract.

NSW plans for powered vessel-free zones at selected Port Stephens beaches this summer are a timely reminder that boat ownership decisions are shaped by more than purchase price, interest rates and fuel costs. For buyers comparing vessels for family trips, fishing, towing or personal watercraft use, local access rules can affect how often a boat is used and whether a chosen model suits the waterways that matter most. - read more
